Slow Days, Good Days

Reminiscing on last summer. Slow days, with sunshine, and good talks and good food. Fritz and I made a super moist and nutty (bad word choice? sorry)  banana bread for this occasion. It never gets old. If there are overripe bananas available,  I'm always down to bake a loaf. Unless those bananas are frozen for smoothies.
We sat out outside in the garden for hours, soaking up the rays.
Later on in the day was a visit to Hamburger Banhof Gallery. Afterwards was kaffee at the nearby restaurant, outside of course.

home

Oh, how I miss it. Come Thursday I'll be back on the plane back to New York, though I wish it were heading for LAX. I need my California sunshine! (If I'm heading back to the states anyways.. )
Berlin is just covered in a blanket of snow, and, it is incredibly beautiful. I'd love to stay here longer.

Christmas Cookies

A week back, we made some deliciously crispy christmas cookies with Anja and Thomas. Anja is a member of the Berlin circus. She does the trapeze(!). Our crispmas cookies- this batch was especially crispy
You can't bake in the kitchen without a little music. Just like you can't bake in the kitchen without watching a funny youtube video. Or two. Or three...

'Round the Christmas Table

On Christmas eve we enjoyed a lovely meal of potato soup, and smoked salmon with horse radish and lemon with family friends. The family friends were enjoying the food with us, they weren't on the menu (just to make that clear).
The table was set....The guys made the last preparations in the kitchen. Our stomachs were very happy, very full. Everyone got a bit silly

Merry Christmas from Berlin

Geneva/Berlin

Whilst in Geneva airport- I was disappointed I couldn't access the one hour of free wifi, since I didn't have an EU cellphone to which they could send my secret passcode.Phooey. However, I did find a fully loaded Sex and the City episode on one of my tabs. Not closing your tabs IS good after all! I had already watched the episode, 'The Monogamists' a day or two prior, but hey, I was in no situation to be picky. I only had forty five minutes to pass until boarding anyway. I had already passed some time exploring the Chanel makeup counter, and testing various perfumes(always fun).
Yesterday, relaxing in Berlin. Jacket/Urban Outfitters Scarf/Gap Blush-liptint/Smashbox

Bum, bum bum. Good song!

Put on my blue suede shoes

Heres good way to keep yourself occupied till the ride arrives if you have a camera on hand and some left over energy from the night. After a couple moves the bus should arrive (but this ranges from stop to stop).

Heres a song that I've been loving lately. They're based in Berlin

Cloud Cities

Yesterday I went with Fritz's mum to Hamburger Banhof Museum to see Tomas Saraceno's Cloud Cities installation. The Argentinian artist's works intend to shatter traditional concepts of place, gravity, time, and traditional ideas within architecture. For this particular installation he drew inspiration from soap bubbles as well as the durability or spiderwebs. In the picture above you can see a spherical garden suspended in mid air; other pieces included a visitor-interactive bubble that visitors can enter. From the inside it looked as if I were inside a giant zorbing bubble, it felt similar to a bounce house.
The installation was just great. Saraceno incorporated natural elements into geometric design and architecture in a way that makes the viewer really think twice about what they see- the combination of such contrasting subjects created a wonderful product.

Only 2 more days left here in Berlin- Im going to miss it! I'll see my sweets in summer again though, so that won't be too far away.  People say second semester goes faster than first, as well. I'll also have all my Fridays off this semester!
Fritz and I are planning to do a trip to Paris- we are currently organizing everything, theres also the possibility of going to Milano too. I'm already so excited for it! I will keep you updated as I find out more.  Classes end early May, so I'll most likely go to Berlin right after. It has really become a second home for me. Hopefully this summer my mom can come to Berlin too- our parents still havent been able to meet!

Gymnasium und Kaffe Trinken

Today I went to school with Fritz, during break between class we went to Rons for a bit, and then met up with a Anna for coffee at Walter's Coffey. It was a cozy little coffe place with blankets and comfy seats. We sat outside with some blankets since the weather was so nice. Since the cafe is located only 5 minutes from the international school here in Berlin I naturally heard a few english speakers around- most of the schools students are American.
Before heading home we took a nice walk along the canal. I hit my head trying to go on the playground ( I guess you have to be smaller?) and I believe it caused a headache wich I am still slightly feeling. I took some medicine at dinner though, and I already feel so much better.

Swing that skirt, move those feet

Neujahrsbrunch at the Corps house was a good time- here are the pictures!
The kind of dance that is done at the corps machia berlin house is friesenrock. Its a really fun upbeat dance between a girl and a boy ( or boy-boy, girl-girl, if they like). Its a combination of swing and 50's rock and roll. There are many fun tricks, flips, and twists that can be done, which makes the dance so much fun!
Here you can see this Anna and Steffen doing a move that takes a lot of strength, and a good sense of stability. This one can make you dizzy- but its so much fun to do.
Corps Machia Berlin is over two hundred years old and one of the oldest fraternities in Germany. Though much of the house had to be rebuilt due to the second World war, one will find many old relics and memorabilia displayed throughout the corp's house that show its long history as a reputable brotherhood.

Raffa - Nur Du -Belmond & Parker Remix

Loving this song right now- take a listen! A clip of it was part of a large house mix (1 hr long), and we just found the name of the song by searching it up from the lyrics on youtube.
Tonight we will watch Kein Ohr Hasen, a german movie I have been dying to see that my love got me for my birthday. Tomorrow I will go to gymnasium with him (: we can sleep in though because a teacher is sick so we only have to go to 7th and 8th period.

Today we went to the market and picked up these sweet treats called chocolate kisses. They are the creamy puffs with chocolate outside, and a wafer bottom. Yummy- and just so sweet! We also got another something sweet at the store- Nougat Bits , the best cereal ever! It has nougat chocolate inside the pieces.

☻☻☻☻☻☻

We are chipmunks! This was from Ron's house on Friday/Saturday. Good times. I was extra happy because I found out that my photobooth wasn't broken. The camera on my computer wasn't working, but I tried again when we were at Ron's - and it was working again! Sadly, my camera broke- the slider broke, so now I cannot go from picture to video. Thankfully I can at least take pictures still, though. I'd rather have the setting be stuck on camera than video. I can still use the digital macro setting too! (Since it is stuck on manual, not automatic)

What do you think of this guy? Maybe the Russian brother to Jaques Brel of la valse a mille temps?
Tschuss! Xo

Gymnasium + Pralines

Went to school with Fritz today- this is always fun for me to do-going to school in another country is actually an enjoyable activity for me. However, waking up in the morning I was not so sure I liked the idea of leaving the warm bed, but- Im glad I did!
Anyways, school started late and got out early, and both of his teachers were fine with me there, so everything was good. After we came back home, relaxed a bit, then made some marzipan pralines with pieces of cognac soaked apricot pieces inside.
Mmmm. Perfect thing to do in this cold weather! Now we are chilling at Rons with some friends- tomorrow, we get the Christmas tree!

Today: NYC. Tomorrow: Berlin

I have a reason for not blogging in the longest time- any college student would understand me. Finals. Studying for hours upon hours just takes the life out of me. However I do bring good news- tomorrow is my last one! I have chemistry at 9:40 AM, and, I fly out to Berlin at 6:40 pm! I will be the happiest person ever once I am on that plane- finals are over, and I get to spend my month long winter holiday with my sweets in Berlin! I will be sure to post as often as I can when I am there. Here are some photos from Thanksgiving- it was such a nice day joining family and friends over the lovely feast. So much amazing food.

I made the sweet potato dish too!  It turned out just like my mom's too, its just my favorite. You can see it on the bottom right on the plate above.

I can't wait to be on that plane!
