Love is a Burning Thing

Billie Holiday's I'll Be Seeing You is one of my absolute favorites... The combination between her voice and the sad music trailing is perfect.

Also, soundtrack music is great especially if the movie was great.  Listen to this exact section of this song because it's beautiful.  But it gets lame after a minute or so:

The wonderful Shigeto came out with a new mix a few days ago:

The painted Veil was on some channel the other day and I find the music of course, to be absolutely perfect!  Check it out, (Composed by Lang Lang)

Also, a soundtrack that MUST be noted is of course the ever loved Amelie:

Gummies

Birthday times in Berlin. Conversing, dancing, lots of raclette, lots of good music.

Its a twin sandwich!
If you are wondering if what you see in the above picture is candy on top of the cake, you are right. In Germany, it is actually very acceptable to have gummies and other candies ontop of cake. The germans do love their gummies. It was a good cake too! I think I gave Fritz the gummies on my slice.

One of my current tracks on repeat.

Testing: B+W //Mila's Dream

Its NYE! Tonight Fritz and I are going to Ron's party here in Berlin. Now we are off to the store to get some fireworks!

Parov Stelar is genius. I'm loving this song at the moment.

And the sun shines over berlin

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Daphne doesn't fail to impress. Both of these photos of her are awesome; they have rebel/rock vibe going on, but are still unmistakably feminine.
Today we had banana bread for breakfast, laid outside and sun bathed and played some badminton. Soon we will be going on a walk along the canal. Its perfect timing now because the sun isn't as strong, but its still early enough before the mosquitoes come out.
I've been playing this all day today, its such a fun one!

Auguste Arthur Bondy

Morning hours fade into midday and morph into afternoon.  Then the lights dim.  And the streets quiet down and time, simple time, becomes more precious.  Not the worry that the night is growing older and soon it will be morning again, but just the idea that these hours of silence and calm are so rare in this world.  The stars emerge and everything exists as a low hum.  It's a typical day for anyone and everyone.  I hadn't really noticed that I've been blessed with these simple transition periods everyday of my life which go unnoticed until now.

Auguste Arthur Bondy, a man of raw talent, appeared on my music radar like a good winter rain after a long indefinite summer drought.  I couldn't help but notice how smoothly his combination of twangy southern folk and calming guitar strums accompanied my revelation of time and it's precious nature.  They mysteriously seemed to go hand in hand.  His music is an honest folky emodiment of a calm afternoon where one watches the people pass encompassed in their own bubbles of life.  Originating from Birmingham Alabama, Bondy's sound is a folk and alternative fusion of pure nostalgia.  I listen to each song and I'm brought back to muddled memories of days and moments of pure insignificance.  It almost makes the listener daze off and snap back right as he hits the perfect note.  I'm mesmerized although no one will lock me in a state of shock as Future Islands... I will forever be on the lookout.

Check out his latest album, believers released in 2011.  Notice tomorrow.

Army of Shadows

Tick. fucking. tock. I am at work. I cannot begin to describe to you how slow the morning goes when you start your day at 5am. Think of it like this: When you wake up at 5 in the morning, 6 hours go by and it's ONLY 11AM. But anyways, that is my present situation. The people/things I really want to write about are: Francesca Woodman, thoughts of Italy (and Germany?!) and the girl with the awesome tattoo. I'll try to keep it short.

When I first clicked on and played "The Woodmans" on Netlifx, I was definitely not paying that much attention and my interest was elsewhere. I was honestly just watching something to pass the time (my life this summer). However, I found myself almost immediately captivated by the story of a girl, an artist, who creates the most beautiful photographs. They are haunted, precise, and surreal. She often used herself as a subject, as well as models a few years later.

Okay, so this summer my family is lucky enough to be going to Tuscany. We're leaving this Thursday. To "involve us in the process" my mom gave us each a nearby city/village to research and plan a day in. I got San Gimignano, a tiny fortressed hilltop village known for its old brick towers and local white wine called Vernaccia di San Gimignano. So, my day will include an award winning gelato shop, white wine tasting, a popular modern art museum, and a tour of the medieval towers. Top that siblings.

If things work out, I should be going to Germany sometime during my stay in Italy. This, of course, would be amazing. Not only would I get to see my darling Caits, I would be visiting a country I have never been to! So much excitement.

Finally, the girl with the awesome tattoo. This was posted on a facebook page called Humans of New York, run by a man named Brandon who has built up quite a collection of portraits, all taken of people on the streets of New York. It means "Army of Shadows" in French. Sick.

Intelligent Coffee & Handsome Roasters

Define: Intelligentsia (in·tel·li·gent·si·a/inËŒteliˈjentsēə/)

Intellectuals or highly educated people as a group, esp. when regarded as possessing culture and political influence.

I've been to this Coffee Shop about three times now.  The Intelligentsia Coffee on Sunset Boulevard.  To get technical, it's located in Silverlake.  If you're from California or the LA area then you'll probably smirk a little...  If you're from any other state in the United States you might be indifferent from this name...  And if you're from Silverlake itself, then you might grind your teeth or possibly break the glass vase in near proximity.  I don't know to be honest.  All I know is that the Silverlake Area is one of the most interesting areas aside from Portland, Oregon that I've ever had the pleasure to visit.  The people are actually pretty nice and the atmosphere is eclectic and random.

After having my manager at Peet's Coffee tell me about a restaurant in Chicago that collectively harasses and verbally abuses their customers just for a good laugh, I'd say the LA area and probably all of New York City have warm, fuzzy, and undeniably friendly inhabitants regardless if they say "hi" to you in the elevator.

Handsome Coffee Roasters was actually a much more relaxed coffee shop in my opinion.  Part of this is due to it's location.  It sits away from the hubbub of LA traffic and noise in the Arts District.  The Coffee wasn't nearly as good as Intelligentsia, however their atmosphere and service was impeccable.  I would choose Handsome over Intelligentsia any day of the week for a nice calm place to get some studying done or to just relax and take in my surroundings.  The most depressing thing about Handsome is that they close at 5pm... I don't even know what to say about that.

The Perks of Being a Peet's Employee

A regular customer at Peet's recently went to Switzerland which is super awesome (and of course I couldn't be calm when he told me) so he offered to send me a few pictures of his trip.  I gave him my email and actually couldn't believe what I saw... All I can say is I really want to go now...

I also just wanted to add:

Damn Youth

Andrew Wheeler (aka Drew Wheeler)... I've also known him since 4th grade.  I remember every single girl was in love with him and his brother Alex when they first moved to Laguna Beach.  We used to put oranges in his backpack as a form of flirting?  I'm sure he loved it.  The reason I bring his name up is because he recently posted on facebook his photography portfolio.  Can I just say I almost died of joy?  Every single picture is incredible.  In a way, Drew perfectly captures the youth of New York City.  I don't know any other way to describe it other than that.  Anyway, look for yourself by Clicking This Here!

But before you look at that gorgeous stuff, I just want to post some random pictures that I took with my iphone this last week just for kicks.

All Of My Days

I was searching through my phone and forgot that I took this picture in Los Angeles.  It perfectly embodies California.
