Cocteau Twins

I started listening to the Cocteau Twins again but this time I've noticed a lot more about the music itself that is just so utterly grand I'm not sure I'll even be able to explain it.  They seem to be alarmingly ahead of their time (Late 70's to late 90's) and it's pretty apparent if you compare them to their contemporaries.

Elizabeth Fraser, the lead vocalist, impossibly captures every emotion with a distinct flicker and flutter of her voice.  Not only does it pair flawlessly with the actual instruments, it flows perfectly with your emotions as you listen.  I'd like to say they are a band that grew on me and it took me some time to realize how great they really are.

Although you might have to look up the inaudible lyrics, you might realize that you feel no different about the song:  Pure love.
Not sure about this video, but here is a song that illustrates their perfection:

free download

What's better than a free music download from Sun Glitters?

Although this gem has no download button, it's a great listen.

Makes me want to make something weird and appreciate it just for being different.  Imagine a wall full of all of these pieces and more stuffed to the brims with abstract works.  People would want to come over all the time.
These pieces can be found at: www.ameliepetitmoreau.com, www.brandonfwilson.com, and www.wallovillacorta.com

I've been spending some time on soundcloud.com which is actually its own community much like that of spotify without the actual downloaded program.  You can find established musicians as well as emerging artists or people who produce music for amusment, but I'm fairly certain most people are already aware of this website...

Right in your spot, in Ear Park.

This won't be interesting... seriously.

I've been listening to cold wave music for a long time now and each song is beginning to sound the same.  I think it's probably time for me to explore some different genres.  But I felt a little depressed thinking about the numerous songs I've listened to on spotify trying to find that next album, artist, or genre that puts me inside my head for the entire time I'm listening.  We are all different (obviously) and a song can mean one thing to one person and an entirely other thing to another (enlightening, right?!)  Therefore, the song I am posting below might not mean too much to someone who's never heard it...   Then again, the music you listened to back in 2008 might mean a lot more to you than it would to me.    Music is how one understands and or interprets it for his or herself.  This was the one valuable thing I learned from my music class this last semester.  It has nothing to do with what the artist intended in the end, and has everything to do with how or what the listener takes in, ultimately giving it their own meaning.  Just like a beautiful painting or a slow thoughtful novel.  This is all pretty obvious, I just enjoy pointing it out.  Spotify being a wonderful application gives me every song and places it on a platter for me to chow down on.  But I became wholeheartedly fatigued of listening to songs that were good but not great.  So, today I watched the movie Blue Valentine and I was reminded of my love for the group, Department of Eagles, and I decided to go back in my library of music and rediscover the music that reminds me of old times and old places.  I recommend it for everyone regardless of whether you listen to much music or not.

This song and this movie... It's a must see for the realists and the romantics because it's real and there is nothing more romantic that believing in real love and there is nothing more real than a real love.

possibly my favorite

I was introduced last year to this band by a friend in my first french class in college. She mentioned them and naturally I didn't look them up until a few months later because when it comes to music I tend to get really picky and snobbish regardless of what I'm listening to. I listened to their most popular song on iTunes and I liked it a lot but for next few days I forgot about them and their eternally unique sound. Then I realized that I had that song stuck in my head... That is how I fell in love with Future Islands. The most unique and possibly greatest band of our time. In my humble opinion. This is Future Islands live which makes them even more admirable.
