On the Road to P- Town

Tomorrow morning I'll be leaving for a weekend trip down to Portland. It'll be nice to get on the road and get back to the city- its been a while since my last visit. I wish my Portlandian, Bry could be there at the same time!Ive been in Seattle for a week now, and its been lovely to be back with family, good food, and those west coast vibes. Look out for a post all about the foodsies I've been noshing on here at home. I just made Blondies, if that can paint a picture for you. Don't even look at me like that... I have to take advantage of having a kitchen while I can! Only a week left of home, then I am back to new york. This week actually hasn't even been total relaxation; I've had to study. I am given a two week 'summer break', and during that time, I must learn an entire textbook. PA School, Y U No give me break?!

As for music news, I almost forgot about Stromae. Then, I saw this. Always keeping things interesting, he is. I adore his videos.

Only til Tomorrow..

I have today to study and pack up.. then, I'm off to Seattle tomorrow! So exciting to head back home again. All of these finals have brought me down with a head cold, so studying isn't really the most beloved thing to do right now. Instead, I find music for the plane ride. Much betttaa. 

I'll be in Seattle for two weeks, and we will a 2 day trip to Portland while I am there. Can't wait! I'm probably going to just pass out on the flight there. I'm leaving right after my biostatistics final.

Oh, how I miss it. Come Thursday I'll be back on the plane back to New York, though I wish it were heading for LAX. I need my California sunshine! (If I'm heading back to the states anyways.. ) 

 Berlin is just covered in a blanket of snow, and, it is incredibly beautiful. I'd love to stay here longer.

Geneva/Berlin

Whilst in Geneva airport- I was disappointed I couldn't access the one hour of free wifi, since I didn't have an EU cellphone to which they could send my secret passcode.Phooey. However, I did find a fully loaded Sex and the City episode on one of my tabs. Not closing your tabs IS good after all! I had already watched the episode, 'The Monogamists' a day or two prior, but hey, I was in no situation to be picky. I only had forty five minutes to pass until boarding anyway. I had already passed some time exploring the Chanel makeup counter, and testing various perfumes(always fun).

The Going Ons

 Long time no blog- I have a lot of catching up to do, I know. 

 So, here is this video to help illustrate what I've been doing for the past couple months. A mix of old and new, really. I just touched ground back in New York from Seattle. I was staying with my family for about two weeks for Thanksgiving holiday- and it was so nice!

 During my trip to the pacific northwest, I also took a trip to Canada! My mum surprised me for my birthday. We were in Victoria, British Columbia, which is this charming little resort town for Canadians- the temperature there is usually warmer and the sun shines for a longer time of year than in most areas of Canada. Its their 'west coast'.

Upstate

Im back in new york, but more specifically I am upstate for the long labor day weekend. Im here with my sister before she makes her road trip back to California. She's been in NY for the past month. We went upstate last week too. Its just beautiful here, such a relief from the city. Its funny how you can drive for three hours out of the city, and feel a world away from it.

  Theres a little stray kitten up here too that is the sweetest thing, I will have to post a picture of her later. Also, I just have to mention that everyone up here cooks amazingly. The food is outrageously good- they get a lot of it straight from the backyard!

America....I'm sorry, but no love

"No one needs a vacation more than the man who just returned from vacation"

Or something like that. I don't know where I heard this, but honestly, at this moment in time, there have never been truer words. My two and a half week stay in Italy was absolutely surreal. The type of experience that you look back on in disbelief barely a day later because you can't believe it actually happened.

I summarize: Food so delicious you wonder how you possibly ate anything else, frescoes from the 14th century casually occupying the same space as a modern clothing store, cats, sunflower farms that dot the countryside with bright yellow patches, and ridiculous amounts of coffee and wine. Oh, and of course, beautiful men.

Rain in July

I'd say the majority of the world will get a few summer rain showers here and there.  I haven't traveled to too many places in the world but I can say without a doubt that rain would grace us with its presence every once in a while when I visited Paris a few summers ago.  It would graze the beautiful quiet city later in the day.  A few hours later the clouds would begin to part and crack like ice just as the sun set.  We'd walk outside to accompany the desk attendants as they smoked their Parisian cigarettes and the puddles would glisten in the reflection of the sunset.  I still have this image in my head of the Rue Vavin after a summer rain shower.  It's one of the most beautiful things I have been graced with in this world and I plan to cherish it until I see it again.  Until it becomes a reality once more.

Army of Shadows

Tick. fucking. tock. I am at work. I cannot begin to describe to you how slow the morning goes when you start your day at 5am. Think of it like this: When you wake up at 5 in the morning, 6 hours go by and it's ONLY 11AM. But anyways, that is my present situation. The people/things I really want to write about are: Francesca Woodman, thoughts of Italy (and Germany?!) and the girl with the awesome tattoo. I'll try to keep it short.

When I first clicked on and played "The Woodmans" on Netlifx, I was definitely not paying that much attention and my interest was elsewhere. I was honestly just watching something to pass the time (my life this summer). However, I found myself almost immediately captivated by the story of a girl, an artist, who creates the most beautiful photographs. They are haunted, precise, and surreal. She often used herself as a subject, as well as models a few years later.

Okay, so this summer my family is lucky enough to be going to Tuscany. We're leaving this Thursday. To "involve us in the process" my mom gave us each a nearby city/village to research and plan a day in. I got San Gimignano, a tiny fortressed hilltop village known for its old brick towers and local white wine called Vernaccia di San Gimignano. So, my day will include an award winning gelato shop, white wine tasting, a popular modern art museum, and a tour of the medieval towers. Top that siblings.

If things work out, I should be going to Germany sometime during my stay in Italy. This, of course, would be amazing. Not only would I get to see my darling Caits, I would be visiting a country I have never been to! So much excitement.

Finally, the girl with the awesome tattoo. This was posted on a facebook page called Humans of New York, run by a man named Brandon who has built up quite a collection of portraits, all taken of people on the streets of New York. It means "Army of Shadows" in French. Sick.

The Perks of Being a Peet's Employee

A regular customer at Peet's recently went to Switzerland which is super awesome (and of course I couldn't be calm when he told me) so he offered to send me a few pictures of his trip.  I gave him my email and actually couldn't believe what I saw... All I can say is I really want to go now...

Sweet Summer

These past few days on Bainbridge have been amazing. I've been rejuvenating, recovering, and making up for lost sleep during the school year (sleeping in till 11 every day). Well, maybe I'm not doing so much rejuvenating- I have a bit of a cold right now. Hopefully its over soon, I'm sick of this. ha ha. get it? I'm punny.
 I think I'm a little tired- Anyways, its beautiful out and we've been having rather in the high 70's. We've been going on quite a few driving/walking trips around the island. The Pacific North West has some of the most beautiful natural landscapes- dark green pines cascade across the skyline, above which are incredible snow capped mountains and right beneath the thick forestry are often bodies of water. Bainbridge and surrounding islands have many inlets, so water channels through in a lot of places.

One of my favorite songs at the moment is Andrew in Drag- by the Magnetic Fields. (I'd post it one here ,but I tried twice and it keeps getting removed) I was listening to it on loop white I was making granola this morning. Its so good! (the song, but the granola too)

I was just thinking about Los Angeles and how incredibly different it is than Newport Beach... It's amazing what an hour's distance can do... I want to go on a road trip somewhere just to take pictures and listen to live music and meet more people.  Something fun and life changing for once because the monotony is killer.  I feel a little disconnected here in my bubble of Newport Beach.  I miss the city and how vibrant and different everything is.
I was bored, so I sketched some weird humans in mildly awkward positions because those always seem to be the most interesting... Listen to more Morrissey!

New York with Caits

This weekend I had Friday off, so guess where I went? My day with Caits in Soho was one of the funnest I've had in awhile! We went to Cafe Habana, which is a famous Cuban restaurant, and had the BEST corn, and an avocado and white cheese sandwich. Later in the evening we had this apartment to ourselves which is owned by a friend of Cait's friend. He's in Ireland. 

It's almost embarrassing to say what we decided to eat at 1:30 in the morning but here it is:

Greenwich Village

 

Me and my friend Mal (from SF) looked on our map just before we got on the subway, to decide our day's destination. We chose Greenwich Village, and had the best time. We strolled around, going in and out of fooderies and little clothing stores. People were all so nice, we made quite a few friends along the way! Washington Square park was great too, there were a lot of talented musicians and many little children dancing, which was just adorable. It's so nice to just wander around, get lost, find yourself again, and see all the new things Greenwich has to offer. Can't wait till I know the city like the back of my hand- no maps required!
