Army of Shadows

Tick. fucking. tock. I am at work. I cannot begin to describe to you how slow the morning goes when you start your day at 5am. Think of it like this: When you wake up at 5 in the morning, 6 hours go by and it's ONLY 11AM. But anyways, that is my present situation. The people/things I really want to write about are: Francesca Woodman, thoughts of Italy (and Germany?!) and the girl with the awesome tattoo. I'll try to keep it short.

When I first clicked on and played "The Woodmans" on Netlifx, I was definitely not paying that much attention and my interest was elsewhere. I was honestly just watching something to pass the time (my life this summer). However, I found myself almost immediately captivated by the story of a girl, an artist, who creates the most beautiful photographs. They are haunted, precise, and surreal. She often used herself as a subject, as well as models a few years later.

Okay, so this summer my family is lucky enough to be going to Tuscany. We're leaving this Thursday. To "involve us in the process" my mom gave us each a nearby city/village to research and plan a day in. I got San Gimignano, a tiny fortressed hilltop village known for its old brick towers and local white wine called Vernaccia di San Gimignano. So, my day will include an award winning gelato shop, white wine tasting, a popular modern art museum, and a tour of the medieval towers. Top that siblings.

If things work out, I should be going to Germany sometime during my stay in Italy. This, of course, would be amazing. Not only would I get to see my darling Caits, I would be visiting a country I have never been to! So much excitement.

Finally, the girl with the awesome tattoo. This was posted on a facebook page called Humans of New York, run by a man named Brandon who has built up quite a collection of portraits, all taken of people on the streets of New York. It means "Army of Shadows" in French. Sick.

Just Passing Through

The artist, Don Nace, is featured in the movie Across the Universe. His drawings are so raw and eerie, you can't help but be fascinated by them. Weirdly, he is kinda hard to find on the internet and he has no real website. In fact, the first thing that pops up on Google when you search his name is the website for a real estate company. C'est étrange.

DRINKIFY.ORG

Someone showed me this awesome website today..The idea is, you type in the artist you are listening to, and the site will pull up the perfect drink to go along with your music. Some of them are pretty funny, and there is HUGE data base. Some examples:

Music Fiend

My friends here at AU are fucking music fiends. It's awesome. Here's a mix of everything I adore at the moment.

Lana Del Rey - This Is What Makes Us Girls from Sónida Collective on Vimeo.

-Say what you want about her, she's actually so hot and the line "A freshmen generation of degenerate beauty queens" is just so cool

Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael
-Obsessed. Music written by Carmichael in 1927, words added in 1929. I want my life to be as beautiful as this song sounds.

-If I Had A Boat by James Vincent McMorrow
My friend pegged him the Irish Justin Vernon. So true. This song is just.....gah!

AU

Im here in D.C! Ann and I grabbed breakfast, and are just in Micro Economics class now. Its a huge, 300+ size lecture class- unlike anything we have at my school. Its neat getting to see Ann's school and meet everyone; I love it here! Ooh, and the granola in the cafeteria is heavenly - Last night I got in around 10 pm, and we just hung around a bit with friends. The megabus ride here was really relaxing, I stocked my ipod with new music and just looked out the window and napped a bit. It was great-

Go do

Loving this song, especially the beginning.

This weekend was insane, and, do I dare say, the funnest yet? Today Yas informed me that I called her 4am my time on Friday night (well, Saturday morning, I guess) saying some pretty weird shit. I also called Brye, Ashley, and Emir, how embarrassing.

On Sunday I bought flowers at Whole Foods to brighten my room...I swear this is all I could find to put them in.

I'm going to New York Friday for Cait's birthday! I'm so excited! We're seeing a New York band called the So So Glo's, a group Cait's sister apparently knows personally. Cait's gift contains 3 parts: 1 she knows about (an AU sweatshirt), and 2 she doesn't (1 will be delish, the other...she might possibly be mad? Love you girlyy)

New York with Caits

This weekend I had Friday off, so guess where I went? My day with Caits in Soho was one of the funnest I've had in awhile! We went to Cafe Habana, which is a famous Cuban restaurant, and had the BEST corn, and an avocado and white cheese sandwich. Later in the evening we had this apartment to ourselves which is owned by a friend of Cait's friend. He's in Ireland.
It's almost embarrassing to say what we decided to eat at 1:30 in the morning but here it is:

Lightly salted popcorn that we stirred with peanut butter and syrup - Cait's idea!
Haagen Daz Coffee Frozen Yogurt
Chocolate Digestive Biscuits - fave!

His Voice

The guy I was studying with last night took a break to show me this song. I was freaking out because it's so good and he was just surprised I liked it.
