Maybe you're addicted to flickr, tumblr, facebook, iphone applications, or even just simple photography, I'm sure you've encountered the word "Lomo." It's a strange word not only because it's short and simple, but because it makes one think of anything else other than photography. But when it comes down to the simple basics, Lomo, short for Lomography is a world of it's own within the photography world. Photography has such a rich history and within that history came the recent expansion of lomography which began by accident in the 1990s.
"It began with a fateful encounter in the early 1990s, when two students in Vienna, Austria, stumbled upon the Lomo Kompakt Automat – a small, enigmatic Russian camera. Mindlessly taking shots from the hip, and sometimes looking through the viewfinder, they were astounded with the mindblowing photos that it produced – the colours were vibrant, with deep saturation and vignettes that framed the shot – it was nothing like they had seen before! Upon returning home, friends wanted their own Lomo LC-A, igniting a new style of artistic experimental photography that we now know as Lomography!"
Recently I've noticed a large sum of people discovering this beautiful way of taking photographs. Even Apple has found a way to allow iphone users the opportunity to make all their photos into a lomographic masterpiece. Lomolomo (here: http://www.instwall.com/) has created an iphone application that I personally use.
There are also many different types of lomographic settings which are all possible by using different lomo cameras and here are only a few:
As of May 6, 2011 the official lomography company has signed up for tumblr at http://lomographicsociety.tumblr.com/
